Pregnancy yoga is the perfect exercise for pregnant women. Classes aim to provide women with asana (postures) to stretch, tone, create space and strengthen their bodies during their pregnancy. Breathing and relaxation techniques empower women in preparation for labour, as well as help to deepen their connection to their growing baby. By using the tools of yoga, focus is given to the magic of women’s bodies, and the innate power that all women possess for a positive pregnancy journey and birth.

Yoga is the ideal exercise for pregnant women. It is widely recommended by midwives and doctors to expectant mothers as a way of keeping fit and mobile in preparation for labour. Each class is designed specifically with a pregnant body in mind, to ease away aches and niggles, to create a sense of calm and ease so you can bond with your baby and experience the pure joy of this journey in your present state of pregnancy.

We don’t give birth with our brains, we give birth with our bodies, and yoga is a wonderful way for mothers to create a strong awareness of their body’s ability and power to birth their baby.
Within each class of the course you will:

  • Learn postures that will challenge and strengthen your body in preparation for birth, in a safe way for both mother and baby.
  • Learn active birthing postures to help you during the different stages of labour.
  • Learn breathing and visualisation techniques. Deep breathing will draw more oxygen into your body to create more energy. It also calms the nervous system making you centered and balanced. Breathing techniques will be taught to help you ride the breath during the second stage of labour when contractions intensify.
  • Cultivate space to completely relax and let go. A women’s body works so hard during pregnancy, and modern society doesn’t give much space for you to slow down and check in with yourself. Through meditation, and an extended savasana (relaxation) you will be given the chance to reset, re-energise, and most importantly of all, time to connect to your baby and the complete magic of them growing within you.

“It was so lovely to spend that hour every week focusing on our bodies and the amazing little beings that were growing inside of us. The classes really helped me to relax and prepare my body for the birth, and I think speeded up my recovery afterwards. Thanks to you Shelley I felt ready when the time came and not at all frightened to face the huge challenge of birth. The breathing really helped me to stay calm. Thanks again for being a great teacher. Your classes really helped me to believe in my body and what it is capable of achieving.” – Julia H

“I just wanted to say that I thought the yoga was brilliant prep for labour – the breathing helped for dealing with contractions and got me in the right head space for coping. I managed to have the baby at home in my living room and by a miracle it was drug free – so I think it was the yoga, Tens machine and birthing pool (plus my amazing midwife) which all helped! I am a complete yoga convert!” – Thi D
