Rainbow Kids Yoga Urban Yoga WellingtonYoga is a wonderful way for children to increase awareness of themselves, others, and the world. Kids’ yoga classes are a fun way to engage a child’s natural, boundless energy whilst encouraging self-expression, imaginative play and instilling valuable lessons in positive thinking.

Urban Yoga is delighted to present a new kids course designed to introduce yoga to kids aged 5-8 years. Each class is alive with magical journeys, where we meet animals, fly a plane, surf the sea, or grow into a tree – all in the form of dynamic yoga poses that improve flexibility, strength and body awareness. Music, games, props, storytelling, relaxation, visualisation, mandala colouring, meditation and more will keep kids involved and focused while teaching them to relax, stretch and energise while having fun. Research shows that when we are having fun, our brains are more open to learning. The same goes for kids!

Introducing your children to yoga at an early age can help them learn healthy lifestyle habits that are foundational building blocks for becoming a resilient teenager and thriving adult.

TESTIMONIALS ~

“This has been the best class for my little one! She always says I LOVE yoga and asks when we can see Jess again! Jess has a natural ability to calm children and let their very best selves shine. Excellent class for teaching children mindfulness, kindness & looking out for their peers and physical confidence. Thank you Jess.” – Amy G

“The yoga classes have been a tremendous help for my 4 yr old boy who is just a ball of energy. I’ve seen him improve each week and be able to concentrate a lot better each time. Jess is so wonderful with the kids and puts so much effort into planning each class with fun activities. Can’t wait to return next term.” – Carol B

“I totally recommend this class. My boy gets frustrated very easily. And learning the breathing techniques have been so helpful to avoid the battles. He self soothes now. It’s great. Highly recommend.” – Sam A

“Jess has a special way with kids, patient beyond belief, she makes each class fun and keeps them engaged. Kids warm to her easily and listen to her. You might think your child won’t listen or focus enough for a yoga class, but Jess structures it in such a way that it’s easy for everyone to enjoy. There is yoga but there are games too (where yoga is combined with running around) or even crafts (like mindful time colouring or making a squeezy stress ball to take home), yoga poses inside fun obstacle courses. I could go on and on because each class has been different and my daughter has loved them all. My daughter has been hot and cold on gym or sports, but did not hesitate to insist she wanted to sign up for another term of Yoga with Jess. Great news for me because it’s also an optional drop off.” – Penny M

Shelley McCarten Urban YogaAbout Jess

Jess Sandoval-Swinbourne is a Rainbow Kids accredited yoga teacher and Ambassador.

Jess was drawn to kids yoga as a mum looking for a positive, life affirming practice, to help her five year-old son who was experiencing episodes of anxiety. Jess quickly discovered the many tools of kids yoga, such as breathing exercises, guided meditation, movement and mindfulness exercises helped him deal with his everyday feelings in positive and sustainable ways. Nowadays they have a regular night time routine of breathing exercises and meditation they do together which helps them connect with themselves and each other before bedtime.

Since completing her training earlier in 2017, Jess has been teaching kids yoga classes at her son’s school, as well as pop up classes, courses and mindfulness workshops for parents, caregivers and children throughout Wellington.

When Jess is not teaching kids yoga, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going for mindfulness walks, going to the gym and of course her own yoga practice!
