This Pregnancy Yoga Course blends functional movement, exercise and birth education in a comprehensive women’s health program to prepare your body and mind for labour.

Taken as a one-off course, or as a succession of courses throughout your pregnancy, you will learn tools to trust your body in labour, and enable you to be strong and confident in your recovery post-birth.Limited to 14 spaces, early registration is recommended to ensure you don’t miss out.

This four week program covers:
  • Birth physiology
  • Bodyweight, strength + core training
  • Breathing mechanics
  • Mind-body connection
  • Mindful breathing + pain relief techniques
  • Birth and pushing positions
  • Core and pelvic floor health

The birth education section of this program makes it more than just a yoga class, and the functional movement and mind-body techniques make it more than just a birth education class. We give equal focus to natural birth and caesareans (whether by choice, or by much-needed intervention). We know that births can have varying outcomes, and we want you to feel prepared for them all, to help you make the most of the beautiful transition from pregnancy to motherhood.

In addition to all of the above, you will be provided direct access to the program facilitator Shelley McCarten, who will make herself available for any questions that you have during and after the course, to help support you both in your pregnancy and postnatal recovery.

TESTIMONIALS ~

“I attended Urban Yoga’s pregnancy yoga classes throughout my two pregnancies. I love the way Shelley teaches, she is so down to earth, open and non judgmental. The movement is nice and gentle and talking about elements of pregnancy, labour and life with baby each week was just what I needed. I can honestly say that things I learned in these classes helped me navigate the birth of my children and regaining strength afterwards. I’d recommend these classes to anyone. – Christie

“It was so lovely to spend that hour every week focusing on our bodies and the amazing little beings that were growing inside of us. The classes really helped me to relax and prepare my body for the birth, and I think speeded up my recovery afterwards. Thanks to you Shelley I felt ready when the time came and not at all frightened to face the huge challenge of birth. The breathing really helped me to stay calm. Thanks again for being a great teacher. Your classes really helped me to believe in my body and what it is capable of achieving.” – Julia H

“I just wanted to say that I thought the yoga was brilliant prep for labour – the breathing helped for dealing with contractions and got me in the right head space for coping. I managed to have the baby at home in my living room and by a miracle it was drug free – so I think it was the yoga, Tens machine and birthing pool (plus my amazing midwife) which all helped! I am a complete yoga convert!” – Thi D

ABOUT Shelley

At the heart of Shelley’s classes is a dedicated focus on building strength and mobility from the inside-out. Her classes are down to earth, accessible and inquisitive, incorporating yoga postures injected with functional exercise and natural movement to create function, health and balance.

Shelley creates comprehensive programs in movement and exercise for women’s health and her specialized knowledge is influenced by experts such as Restore Your Core and One Strong Mama founder Lauren Ohayon, Physical Therapist Julie Wiebe, physiotherapist Antony Lo, personal trainer Jessie Mundell, and yoga and Restorative Exercise Specialist Jenni Rawlings, amongst many others.

Shelley has trained with numerous teachers, teacher trainings and workshops since 2011, and her constant curiosity in body-mind-movement means she is continuously deepening her knowledge in somatics and exercise science. More recently she has completed the 52 Weeks of Biomechanics with Katy Bowman, and the New Wave of Yoga with Michael Stone and Kathryn Bruni Young. More specific to her passion in women’s health she has completed physical therapist Sarah Ellis Duvall’s Training for the Pelvic Floor, and Antony Lo’s (aka @physiodetective) Bulletproof Your Body – Pelvic Core and Floor programs. Shelley is currently Australia & New Zealand’s only accredited Restore Your Core (RYC™) teacher, a comprehensive program developed by Lauren Ohayon.

Shelley also takes a regular Saturday morning class ‘Yoga: Core & More’ at Urban Yoga. For more information about Shelley and inspired functional movement for women’s health, visit www.shelleymccarten.com
