January 2013 Survey Results

A huge thank you to all of those who took the time to fill out the survey. It’s such a privilege to have you you share your views with me. Yoga is about meeting you where you are and helping you turn inward in order to help you take yourself where you want to go. Your feedback is invaluable to ensuring we offer what you want and need from Urban Yoga. (see below for Executive Summary of results)

As promised, I’m giving away one private session (value $95) to one of the survey respondents. The lucky winner is Jess Maccagno from the lunchtime classes. Congratulations and thank you for your input.

As a direct result of the survey, the following things are now on offer:

  • Heaps of you are interested in help with creating a Home Practice. To that end, I will be offering a Home Practice workshop on Saturday, Febraury 9 from 10:30am-1:00pm. Following the workshop, there will be the opportunity to go with the group to brunch (cafe TBA)
  • Many of you who responded expressed an interest in private sessions. For those who responded to the survey, until February 28, one off private sessions will be available for $70 (regular price is $95) and a series of six sessions will be available at $385 (regular price is $475). If you haven’t responded yet and want the deal on private sessions, there’s still time! Simply go along and fill out the survey by January 22 and you’ll be eligible.
  • And there is more coming up – stay tuned.
As for the nitty gritty of the survey results, I had my favorite analytical mind, David, crunch the numbers to provide the following comprehensive round up of results. Enjoy!

Executive summary of January 2013 Survey Results

You’re part of a community who practice yoga for:

  • fitness (87%)
  • health and wellbeing (79%)
  • stress management (64%)
  • connection with spirit (38%).

Most of you like to practice 2-3 times per week and more than half of you (57%) have a home practice. 72% of you are interested in developing your
own home practice in a workshop. Other areas of interest for workshops include Yoga Philosophy, Pranayama, Chakras and specific physical focus. Stay tuned for upcoming events.

2013 is going to be a big year for our community. 93% of you said that you would refer a friend to Urban Yoga. Learning that, Kelly has set up a new
offer for first timers: a one week trial of all the classes for just $20. Please let your friends know.

Half of you are interested in 5 day immersions, so that is in the works for later this year. For all the people who have indicated you have
aspirations for teacher training/mentoring, Kelly will be having a conversation with you shortly.

Overwhelmingly and almost unanimously, you value 3-10 minutes of absolute quiet at the end of class. It’s been described as: “love”,
“bliss”, “reward”, and “bloody wonderful”. Expect more of that on a mat near you soon. Physical strength and flexibility were also important at
8/10, less so being pushed to your edge (7/10). We totally agree with the comment that “Some days just turning up to class feels like a challenge
enough”. We all have it from time to time.

The most moving part of this experience for us was learning how important our yoga community is to you. Sharing in the challenges and
experiences, meeting new people and catching up before and after class were often mentioned. Many people wrote that they felt safe,
respected and valued in our space. We hope you continue to offer a warm reception to all the new faces that come along. Next time you are in
class (if you are feeling brave enough) introduce yourself to the person next to you. Secretly, they actually want to get to know you.

This year we’ll do our best to help you get to know your fellow students even more. There will be play dates, monthly Friday night kirtans (like “work drinks” for yogis – a great way to let go of the week and facilitate connection), class dinners and open studio space for you to practice in with each other.

Finally, thank you so much for your kind words. We have limited time together each week and we know we can’t connect with you all as much as
we’d like to. We’re pleased to learn how much you value the practice. Please know, if you ever want to share or chat please get in touch.

Remember, you are welcome to leave your mat here at the studio (with your name on it) and we do have 10 trip concession options.

We, the teaching team at Urban Yoga, appreciate your ongoing participation and presence. It really is a privilege to work with you.

Namaste.
